Installation methods
There are a huge number of useful plugins for SketchUp. There are three ways to install them, depending on the plugin file extension and SketchUp version.
Method 1: Put the plugin in the Plugins folder
This method is suitable for plugins with .rb and .rbs extensions. Such files just need to be placed in the Plugins folder, which can be located at the following addresses:
Windows
- For SketchUp version below 2013 - C:/Program Files (x86)/Google/Google SketchUp 7(8)/Plugins
For SketchUp 2013 - C:/Program Files (x86)/SketchUp/SketchUp 2013/Plugins
For SketchUp 2014 and above - C:/Users/***/AppData/Roaming/SketchUp/SketchUp 2014/SketchUp/Plugins
Where *** is the username of the PC.
The "AppData" folder may be hidden. Just add AppData in the address bar, or display this hidden folder like this:
1. Open Explorer on the taskbar.
2. Select View > Options > Change Folder and Search Options.
3. Click the View tab, and in the Advanced Options section, select the Show hidden files, folders, and drives option, and then click OK.
MacOS
You can use Finder->Go->Go To Folder and paste the following into the dialog box:
~/Library/Application Support/SketchUp 2022/SketchUp/Plugin
Method 2: Install from SketchUp
This method is suitable for plugins that have the .rbz extension (not suitable for Skechup versions below 2013). To install the plugin, you need to go to the SketchUp program menu:
Window->Extension Manager->Install Extension
Or (depending on SketchUp version):
Extensions->Extension Manager->Install extension
Also, plugins with this extension can be unpacked with any archiver and placed all the resulting files and folders in the Plugins folder, i.e. do everything as in the first method.
Some plugins require the installation of additional libraries or other already installed plugins (for example, plugins from Fredo, thomthom, Anton S and others). Usually the user receives a warning in the form of an error from which you can find out the name of the desired plugin.
Method 3: Installation file
This method is suitable for plugins that have the .exe extension. Everything is as simple as possible here. Run this file and follow the instructions of the installer.
